MT5 AI ② : What Can the AI Assistant Really Do?

In the previous article, I introduced the new AI Assistant built into MetaTrader 5 (MT5) and explained why this update was so impressive.

But what many traders really want to know is simple:

“What can it actually do?”

After using it myself, I would like to share what the AI Assistant does well—and where its limitations are—from a trader’s perspective.

🤖 What the AI Does Well ①: Explaining the Current Chart Situation

For example, you can ask:

  • “How do you see the current market?”
  • “What is the current status of my positions?”
  • “Why is the current situation being evaluated this way?”

The AI can check the chart and account information and explain what it sees.

It can also take your open positions and profit or loss into account, rather than looking only at the chart currently displayed.

This allows it to provide more useful answers than a normal chat AI.

As a partner for checking “What is happening with my trading right now?”, I found it surprisingly useful.

🛠️ What the AI Does Well ②: Teaching You How to Use MT5

MT5 has an enormous number of features.

You can ask questions such as:

  • “Where can I find this setting?”
  • “How do I display this?”
  • “What does this error mean?”

The AI can answer these questions right there in MT5.

Instead of searching the web or looking through manuals, you can often solve the problem through a simple conversation.

This can be especially helpful for beginners.

And the AI does not only explain things. Depending on the permissions you give it, it can also perform various actions on your behalf.

If the relevant restrictions are removed, the AI can place or close trades and even modify order details.

💬 What the AI Does Well ③: Having a Conversation

Traditionally, learning about trading often meant asking one question at a time, such as:

  • “What is RSI?”
  • “What is a moving average?”

With AI, you can continue the conversation and deepen your understanding.

For example:

  • “Explain it for a beginner.”
  • “Make it simpler.”
  • “Give me a specific example.”

The ability to keep asking questions naturally is a major advantage.

Even when you do not understand the technical terms, it is easy to ask the AI to explain them in simpler language.

⚠️ But the AI Is Not Omnipotent

So far, I have focused on the positive aspects.

However, after actually using the AI, its limitations also became clear.

The biggest lesson was that the AI is not a magic solution.

For example, if you ask:

  • “Will I make money if I buy right now?”
  • “Will USD/JPY go up?”
  • “Tell me a strategy with a 100% win rate.”

The answers tend to be relatively general.

You will often get advice about risk management and money management. The advice is not wrong, but much of it is information that experienced traders already know.

🔮 AI Cannot Predict the Future

Recently, we have seen claims that if AI continues learning, it will eventually be able to predict future market movements with extremely high accuracy.

This is something we should look at more carefully.

AI is very good at finding patterns and tendencies in huge amounts of historical data.

But it does not actually know the future.

Even if AI had 1 million years of chart data, it could not know about a war, a natural disaster, an unexpected statement from a political leader, a new economic policy, or sudden changes in market psychology that will happen in the future.

The market constantly changes because of new events.

That is why the real value is not “AI predicts the future.”

It is “AI organizes the information available now, and humans make the final judgment.”

AI is not magic.

It can be an excellent assistant, but it cannot guarantee what will happen in the future.

🎯 The Way You Ask Questions Changes the Value of AI

One thing I noticed while using the AI is that the value you get from it can change dramatically depending on how you ask your questions.

For example, instead of simply asking:

“Should I buy?”

Try asking:

  • “What points on this chart should I pay attention to?”
  • “What should I be careful about in the current market?”
  • “What are the risks of this position?”

Questions like these allow the AI to make better use of its strengths.

Rather than thinking of the AI as something that will trade for you, it is more useful to think of it as an assistant that helps organize the information you need to make your own decisions.

🤝 AI Is Not a “Teacher”—It Is a “Trading Partner”

After using the AI for several days, this was the part that left the strongest impression on me.

The AI is not something that will make profits instead of you.

However, it is a very useful partner because:

  • You can ask questions immediately when you do not understand something.
  • You can discuss the market with it.
  • It can teach you how to use MT5.

The ability to solve problems through a conversation, instead of opening a search engine and looking for answers, makes MT5 feel like more than just trading software.

It is taking another step toward becoming a trading platform with a partner you can talk to.
